Hellsing Ultimate is sort of like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood in that it more closely follows the manga and has a predecessor that takes its own approach and sort of goes off on some tangent. It is a rather dark anime with 10 episodes, each lasting around an hour.
Plot/Premise
What do you get when a vampire hunting organization and the catholic church get challenged by the last remnants of the Third Reich who found the secret to immortality via becoming vampires? If you answered with Hellsing Ultimate you'd be correct.
Catholics on the left, Hellsing organization in the middle, and the Nazi's on the right |
This was one of the few series that I actually liked every single character in the show. Each one character had its place to play in making the story as what it was, no matter how small the role. Each character is given their reasons for doing the things that they do and they themselves develop as their reasons and pasts are revealed in a way that is relevant to the situation at hand.
Animation/Art
Given that I tend to watch older anime this portion may be a little biased. The art is the most crisp out of all the anime that I've seen. It is not too bright or shiny like some of the newer anime, while the color does not get dark enough to set everything off.
For Example |
I give this anime a 8.5/10. The humor in it can be a little off putting for how serious it can get. Because of this, you could be put off the anime entirely if that was not what you were looking for in the show.
Next Time
Next week I will be reviewing Samurai 7. Next on my list however is Birdy The Mighty followed by a post on my plans on how I will be reviewing One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach in the future.
