Soul Eater - Demothis

Hello, Demothis here again. Sorry for the late review. I will be reviewing the anime called Soul Eater. It is a low-medium length anime with 51 episodes that was created from 2008 to 2009.

Going into this anime I was not sure what to expect. It was late, I was bored, and Netflix was open in my browser. So I decided to give it a go and boy did I have a wonderful journey. Aside from a single character that almost destroyed my entire experience, I really enjoyed it. The anime seems to get cut short while the manga just continues. Because of this it does not make use of the large potential that it had.

Plot/Premise
Set in a school where children are taught how to be weapon meisters who pair up with other students that can turn into weapons that can the ability to effectively slay those who have walked the path of evil and no longer have a human soul. When the souls of 99 evil humans and one soul of a witch the weapon has the honor of becoming a "Death Scythe"; a weapon used by Death himself.

Characters
The characters all are pretty unique within their own world, with each bringing their own elements to the show. The only character I had a problem with was Black*Star due to how annoying and arrogant he came off as. The other characters even go so far as to support and even further progress his arrogance. Unfortunately, I still have to admit that he does have character development and is a decent character despite my writing hatred for him.

MAKA
Maka is the main weapon meister that the story follows. While the story in general follows several characters she is the one that it mainly follows. She is the perfect student and overall progresses in a realistic way. It isn't too much, or too rapid to turn her into another character, but just enough to give her a good depth. The weapon she uses is Soul.

BLACK*STAR
Black*Star is an energetic, arrogant, rash, and overall jerk. His one goal is to surpass God. His character development comes in all of his traits getting even worse over time. He is one of the main comic relief characters of the show.

DEATH THE KID
Death The Kid is an amusing character in that he starts off as the perfect character, but it later shows that he has one major flaw; he has a severe case of OCD when it comes to symmetry. Anything that is not symmetrical or perfect is deemed trash. It is even to the point where he would abandon his mission due to him being paranoid about the smallest things. Overall, he probably goes through the least character development out of all the main characters in the show. He pretty much stays the same throughout the whole show.

Animation/Art
The art of Soul Eater is very peculiar in that it is able to come off as cartoon-y while also simultaneously giving it a dark atmosphere. Sometimes the cartoon-y side of it takes precedence, while the other sometimes shows more when things get serious. The art style allows it to be serious, while also comical and lighthearted.

Overall
Overall I give this anime an 8/10. It would be higher, but the story really breaks down towards the end. It started to feel rushed in the final episodes and despite having a manga that is still going it just stops. It had potential for something greater, it settled before anything was truly settled. It left you with questions that should have been answered, and it felt like it simply should not have ended.

Next Time
I will be posting my late review on Birdy The Mighty Decode soon  with a review on Hellsing Ultimate aliong by a post with some AMV's on the Big Three coming this Friday. I do need to make up for my lack of posting lately after all.
