Woodpecker- Attack on Titan Re-review

Attack on Titan:

Overview:

Evening everyone! Tonight I bring to you my re-review on Attack on Titan. The last time I review this anime was when it was not yet complete (roughly episode 20). Back to the show itself I feel that this anime is a must see. If you love blood, violence, and some of the fastest fights you will every see, you will definitely want to watch this show. Attack on Titan has some of the most gruesome deaths and hopeless odds you will ever see in an anime. Unlike most anime where the hero defeats the most powerful foes over and over again, this one shows a more realistic transition as the main character, Eren, slowly finds out how to truly fight his foes the Titans!

Plot: 4.5/5

Basically the story is set in a more medieval/renaissance era, where the human inhabitants were being devoured by the creature they called Titans. During this time there was a huge war and the humans somehow managed to build a colossal 3 layered wall in a certain territory (This is miraculously constructed right under the vicious Titan's noses). A couple hundred years later the story is set on the three main characters Eren, Mikasa, and Armin (They are only kids at the beginning of the anime). Long story short, the colossal Titan breaks down the wall of the out most city that the main characters happen to live in. In the chaos the kids get away, only after Eren's mother is eaten and his father is missing. Eren's life is in ruins, and the story moves on to a boot camp. They learn the skills they need to combat the titans and move on to graduation. As cliché as this is, they are attacked again only a day after everyone's coronation into their faction (Military Police, Survey Corp, or the Stationary Guard). After this Eren finds out that when he draws upon his own blood with a strong goal set upon his mind, like killing titans, he can turn into one. After he goes on his rampage and kills several titans, he falls and is rescued by his allies. To summarize even farther, the military then uses him to block the wall with a giant rock to prevent the titans from entering. After this event, the government tries to figure out if they should kill him or not. The Survey Corps then reveals to them the benefit of having a titan on their side and he is released.

After Eren is released he then moves on to refill the other walls to trap the titans and take them out one-by-one. Not to his expectations he runs into another titan like him that can transform, that can also kick his butt. He somehow escapes from her clutches only after losing 90% of his squad and returns home. He later finds out who it is and makes a plot to capture them. The plan fails and thousands of people die when Eren changes form to fight them to prevent more damage. The plan to capture them fails in the end and there is an odd plot twist at the end of the show.

 Music: 1/1

As far as the music is concerned, I actually enjoy the regular soundtracks very much, though I preferred the first opening song to the most recent. Anyways, the soundtracks are just like the anime: suspense building, intense, sad, and very dark. Attack on Titan is the first anime that I have watched that actually put more than one English background song in the show, which I found a little strange and awesome at the same time.

Animation Style: 1.5/2

The animation style of this anime was fantastic! I thought they did a great job on the environment and all of the detail was spot on. Another thing I like was the blood animation and rain animation, both had vivid detailing. I found the character themselves very Death Note-like. This would make sense because the director of Death Note also created this show. All around I found the animation style very appealing to say the least.

Characters: 1/2

As we know at this point the three main characters are Eren, Mikasa, and Armin. There are a lot more characters, but you will soon find out that they have a tendency to die a lot due to the amount of Titan massacres. As far as Eren's story, he was the son of a doctor (now missing) and has a very violent, blunt, and sometimes carried away personality. Mikasa is somewhat infatuated and obsessed with Eren. I think Mikasa really started to cling to Eren after her parents' deaths, and her move into his family. In Armin's case there really isn't too much back story on him, you mostly hear about his grandfather and how he talked about the outside world all of the time.

One thing that you will notice about most of the characters is that they go from either happy to emotionless or from cocky to scared out of their pants. Most of the characters will change drastically after they either lose someone to a titan, or encounter one themselves. The only ones that are different I would have to say is Eren and Mikasa. Eren seems to have always had problems, and when Eren saved Mikasa from her kidnappers she learned what it felt like to kill to stay alive and now never almost never hesitates.

This anime comes with a high recommendation if you are looking for a good anime to watch. If you enjoy watching anime with blood, violence, and lots of dead people, then this show is just right for you.

Overall Rating: 8/10
